Equestrian Canada and the Canadian Paralympic Committee are proud to announce the four athletes nominated to represent Team Canada in para-dressage at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games this coming September. Para-dressage is one of Canada’s most successful international equestrian disciplines, and many of the athletes nominated for Rio have a long and accomplished competition record. Since equestrian sport was introduced to the Paralympic Games program in 1996, Canada has earned a total of five individual medals, including gold and silver at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games by Lauren Barwick.

The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the global governing body for equestrian sport, announced on June 6, 2016, that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Olympic Channel. The FEI is one of 27 International Federations to have signed an agreement with the IOC to work together to bring sport to a massively increased television audience worldwide.

On June 21, 2016, the FEI published the long lists (FEI nominated entries) of athletes and horses for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Belinda Trussell of Stouffville, ON and her mount, Anton, danced their way to a Bronze Medal in the CDIO 3* Grand Prix Freestyle, held April 1, 2016 as the individual final in the Stillpoint Farm Nations’ Cup in Wellington, FL.

A total of six nations will be making their Olympic and Paralympic debuts at Rio 2016 when they field athletes for the equestrian disciplines of Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, and Para-Equestrian Dressage.

If there was an annual award for Perfect NRHA Show of the Year, the 2016 Cactus Reining Classic would seriously have to be in the running. The five-day event - held March 2 to 6, 2016 at the WestWorld facility in Scottsdale, Arizona - had it all. The competition on days one and two of the event was exceptional, with Shane Brown winning the NRHA Open on day one with Double Loaded Gun (73), and Wind Er Up Wimp (73.5) on day two. Paige Barton’s Diamond Oak, with Martin Padilla riding, held on tight to take second place with a 72.5 on day one, and scored a 73 on day 2. He’s Smart With A Gun won the Intermediate for owner Michael Berg on days one and two.

Equestrian competition officially came to a close at the TORONTO 2015 Pan American Games with the individual final in show jumping taking place on Saturday, July 25, at the OLG Caledon Pan Am Equestrian Park in Caledon, ON.
